, superstorm sandy. it looks like those are coming down again. the big jobs report will be tomorrow, which will give us the real gauge of what's happen iin here. they expect only 77,000 jobs added. and the unemployment rate, they think, will tick back up to 8%. 77,000. why? because of superstorm sandy. you didn't have hiring, people getting jobs in the northeast because during that time the last month or so. >> jack welch right now, they went up after the election. >> those chicago people. >>> all morning we've been following major developments in both syria, in egypt and syria there are new fears that they could unleash nerve gas on some of the rebels. that's a report from nbc news, that syria is loading the component chemicals. cnn has not confirmed that report yet. egypt, protoasters have started to gather outside the presidential palace in cairo. lots of anger building after the new president gave himself extra powers. the protests were very violent last night. the clashes killed at least five people. nic burns, former u.s. ambassador to nato, now a professor of foreign relations. cnn

by superstorm sandy. the request comes at a time when lawmakers are arguing how every dollar is spent. >>> our fourth story "outfront," an historic announcement. the supreme court decided today it will hear two constitutional challenges to same-sex marriage laws. if the court were to follow public opinion, the decision could come down in favor of gay and lesbian couples. recent polling shows 53% of americans think same-sex marriage should be legal. 46% say illegal. and on election day, voters in three states approved same-sex marriage. to home now, president obama has asked congress for $60 billion. that's in aide to help with superstorm sandy's cleanup in all states. the request comes in the midst of a tough fiscal cliff fight and house speaker john boehner says they will review the request by the president. new york and new jersey originally asked for a combined $79 billion in aide. the states' governors say they are grateful for any help. >>> the supreme court taking up the controversial issue of gay marriage. the high court agreed to hear two important cases, prop 8 out of california and doma out of new york. a federal court recently overturned prop 8 after the measure passed by voters. the court will decide if doma violates the fifth amendment of equal protection under the law that applies to same-section couples legally married in other states. >>> today is a very happy day for same-section couples in washington state. it is the first day they can marry under the new law, legalizing gay marriage. couples began lining up for licenses early thursday morning. some courthouses opened up at midnight for the ceremonie

government to reimburse the state for 100% of the cost of rebuilding from superstorm sandy. christie heads to washington on thursday to meet with federal officials. you know, parts of the new jersey coastline, complete devastated by this powerful storm. you know, governor christie estimates that sandy caused upwards of $20 billion of damages. >>> and the atlanta journal-constitution with more information about dozens of children and adults that were sickened by carbon monoxide poisoning at the local school there. at least 49 people were sent to the hospital yesterday. take a look at this. fire officials believe the heating system failed there. finch elementary had no carbon monoxide detectors, either. which, i guess, they're not required in georgia. and many parents complained they were left in the lurch because of poor communication. soledad o'brien will talk to a student, a parent and also a school official. so we'll get lots of sides there. >> also coming up, amazement and dismay. that's how fedex's ceo is describing the fiscal cliff crisis. i sat down with fred smith. hear what he has
